Momoko reached for her phone, tossing the towel over her shoulder as she plopped into a seat at one of the tables. "/Break time!/" She called to Masaki then hit Dinah's speed dial.
"/What break time? I'm not paying you to sit around!/" Came Masaki's fond chiding, along with the sound of clinking glassware.
"Just putting Masaki-kun in his place. I'm just helping Masaki clean up the Kissu Kissu. His sister has exams coming up and I need some distracting tonight." Momoko laughed into the phone. "Thank you! I'm officially an adult today! Legal to drink and vote!"
Karla began singing as soon as Momo picked up. "Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy biiiiiiiiiiiirthdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay dear Mooooooooooooooomo! Happy birthday to you!"
"/Ah? Thank you! You're so nice, but my birthday was last month!/" Masaki replied and then held the phone out to Momoko as she returned from the bathroom. "/It's for you./"
"/Eeek! Masaki-kun?!/" Momoko snatched the phone from him, looking at him like he was crazy. "/Of course it is! It's my phone! Why did you answer?/" She looked at the caller ID and rolled her eyes. "Kaarla!!!!!! Hi hi hi! What's up?"
"/I thought it was urgent?/" Masaki was totally lying and didn't care that Momoko knew it. "/She has a very pretty voice. Is she an idol?/"
"/You were bored and you know it. She's a queen and has a very jealous prince consort,/" Momoko shooed him back towards the kitchen.
"/I don't want to date her./" He rolled his eyes and started to tear down the nearest shake machine. "/Is her prince cute?/"
Momoko didn't bother to answer, laughing as she moved to a table. FAR AWAY FROM THE BAR. "Sorry Karla. My friend is just a busy-body."
"I have no idea what was said from the moment I stopped singing," Karla said with a laugh. "What did he say, what did you say back, and he ruined my very lovely serenade. I'm crushed you missed it?"
Momoko laughed hard. "He said you have a lovely voice and wanted to know if you were an idol... that's kind of an actor model that sings? I told him no, that you were a queen with a very jealous prince, and then he asked if your prince was cute."
"You were singing? What were you singing? I wanna hear it!"
When Momoko got home, whenever that was, she'd find a package waiting for her. For once, Jaime had managed to actually perfectly time a delivery to coincide with the day it was intended for. Sometimes miracles did happen.
It wasn't a huge box, but it was decently sized. Big enough that Jaime would never admit how much it had cost to ship.
It was a tired Momoko who arrived back at the dorms. Well after curfew, she waved to the security cameras and used her pass to stumble into the building and to her room.
Unfortunately she couldn't collapse onto her bed like she really wanted; there was a package on it! The return address had her completely forgetting about her muscle aches and totally emo-day, and she just held the box a moment before tearing into it.
On top was a card. Then, under that, a series of paper-wrapped parcels of various sizes.
Four of them.
A boxed set. Brand new. Nothing special.
A poster tube, with a signed poster inside. Limited edition. Mint. Jaime had stumbled over it at a garage sale of all places.
An assortment of Mexican chocolates, bars and blocks for hot chocolate.
And, finally, the thing that had made him the most nervous to send: a sun-dress. Pink, of course. Amanda had helped him pick it out, and he'd owed her dinner for the favor. She'd also laughed at the slight blush she'd spotted when she demanded an explanation as to why he needed help picking out a dress.
The card was hand-printed:
Happy Birthday. I hope it was a happy one. You deserve a happy one.
Momoko set the card aside for the moment, totally gleeing as she saw MULTIPLE PACKAGES!
Her sleeping roommate made a noise and turned over, so Momoko scooped up the box and card and left the room, heading for the bathrooms. Once there she sat on the floor against a wall and reached for the card. Her smile dimmed as she read it, though. She ran her fingers over the word 'love', not really sure how she felt about that. He'd never said that to her before, and she almost felt cheated to be hearing it now. When he meant it as a friend...
She set it aside and reached for the box of parcels, her smile coming back as she opened each one. How he always seemed to get her the best presents Momoko never knew:
The boxset? Totally wasn't even due out for months in her world! "YES!" She hugged it tight before reaching for the next package. The poster was one she already had? But hers was totally old and not signed, so he totally scored bonus otaku points on that one. And the chocolate? Totally opened and sampled.

Just got back to Fandom! Sorry I didn't call -- poor cell reception in the Robear Berbil village.

Was worried! He probably had a few handwavy messages on his phone that proved it. How was home? Everything okay???

Yes, Lion-o was still a little bitter about that.
So I ended up staying at the village. It was good to be needed, and they needed a lot of extra hands with the rebuilding efforts.

And now Momoko was regretting not going home with her friend. Again.
