Hello! Found this page via the one for Plath. I've been a fan of Sexton's work since highschool. I'd just discovered her work during the week Kurt Cobain killed himself. Because of that the association of death with Sexton and her poetry...it all brought things to a weird clarity. I've read Diane Middlebrook's bio on Sexton about 5 or 6 times with ( Read more... )

same for me.
it's strange how things can be going on in people's lives at exactly the same time. i was nearly admitted to a psych. ward after my therapist read "wanting to die" in my journal. i was 16, so that was 1996. i have read everything there is on anne, except for what's in texas. i'm going though, with purpose.
i'm embarrassed about the whole kurt suicide depressing poetry music thing now, though. it's like a dirty little secret. it seems so adolescent...because it is. those were sad times. it makes me feel disgusting and nostalgic.....remembering the fun as much as the morbid fascination. anyway...

Yeah, I know it's cliche to say anything about Kurt if you were around for that. But I was in highschool at the time and listening to the radio while doing my poetry lessons. I heard it when they announced him missing and I heard the announcement that he was dead. Having that happen while studying Plath and Sexton, two women obsessed with death, as I said it cemented the whole "death" thing. A bit embarrassing but true.
Except for what's in Texas?
