This post is for coffee_and_ink.

Got back this evening from the Albuquerque conference where faith_delivers and another colleague and I presented papers on BtVS. We all agreed that we had the best BtVS panel there (and there were lots- BtVS was the theme of the SFF strand of the conference). There were two other papers that were as good as ours, or nearly so, but each of ( Read more... )

ahhhhhh. My brain just went there, because I could so see her going to the presentation of a Buffy paper (I took Arthurian Lit. from her 2 years running, and I think nwo she teaches a kickass Tolkien class) if it were happening on campus.

It's entirely possible that she was there, but not everyone who attended our panel came up to introduce themselves afterwards. There were also about a dozen Buffy panels to choose from, so if she had to choose she might have attended a different one -- or attended a Tolkien panel, for that matter, since there were a few of those as well.

Wheeeee! Bring your own geeks is definitely the best way to ensure the quality of your panel. I'm so glad it went well. I must hear all about it at the earliest opportunity.

That's great that it went so well for you :) I was wondering, would you be willing to post your paper? I'd love to read it.. I think. What's the subject?

I've been thinking about posting the paper at my website, yes. I won't have a chance to do so for a while, though, as I'm going out of town again tomorrow.

Well, of course *we* knew that. But now lots of other people know it as well, which is pleasing. And I got asked for my paper by one of the two other people who wrote kick-ass papers -- really nice guy, and very smart, and I'm guessing just a year or two ahead of me career-wise.

Any chance you'd be willing to share more about this conference, the panel/paper topics (including--maybe even especially--the crazy ones) and your own stuff?

Sure. I'm going out of town again tomorrow, but can post at some point after I get back.

As a teaser: the paper I gave was about feminist community in BtVS, and grew out of ideas I wrote about in posts on Dirty Girls and Chosen.

I miss my show.
