A few weeks ago, Amelia mentioned that one of her friends, Maddie, was wearing fingernail polish all the time now. She asked if I would paint her fingernails. This was the first time she'd ever asked about having her nails polished.

"Sure, sweetie.  I'll do your fingernails in whatever shade of pink or purple you like."

"WOW!"

"But you know, you have ( Read more... )

Hey, she's too busy dancing and frolicking to sit still for that long!

My dad, when I was 11 or 12 and wanted to wear makeup, told me that I could if I wore it all the time and if I fixed it right away when it was messed up.

I wear makeup some of the time but I still don't think it is worth the effort.

15 minutes explains why I always have a messed up nail or two or three:) Not even I can wait until my nails dry before I have to do something with my hands.LOL, is so great she is so innocent and play comes before getting her nails done just yet, it's a great age.

All of the fripperies will come with time. :) I just want her to enjoy this age!

(I'm with you - my fingernails are always messed up!)

I always have at least one nail that is chipped or smudged or has a fingerprint in it before they are dry. It never fails, and if I remove the polish and redo that nail, it continues to be screwed up. I just let myself have a flawed nail or two now rather than spending the time trying to perfect them. I'm still excited to have fingernails to paint since I stopped biting them, I never even knew they could grow they were so gnawed upon once!

And that's why I never wear nail polish, either. :)

I'm a toenails sort of girl, because I can put my feet up while they dry. :)

Sigh, Sylvia got her first nail polish a few weeks ago. I made her use her own allowance to pay for it and there is a rule that it must be applied outside. I don't know what we are going to do if she decides to get into makeup.

I'd definitely set an age for make-up. I wasn't allowed to touch it til 11 or so.

I was thinking 16.

I am allergic to makeup and can be of no help whatsoever, well except to say "take that off, you look like a tramp" and I don't think that's going to help anything.

Good luck holding her off that long. :)

Please don't compare her to a tramp, even jokingly. I'll have to give you a big old self-esteem lecture, and no one will win.
