Room 330 - Wednesday Afternoon

Jan 09, 2013 16:43

Did people here know there was a portal from the school to Rio de Janeiro?  Because apparently there is.  And this morning, that portal had apparently decided to reverse itself to spit an annoyed and doused-in-rum Kate Bishop back onto Fandom ( Read more... )

After a morning of practicing at the range, followed by one class that had been interesting and one class that had been deeply horrifying, it occured to Alec to check on the Fandom-assigned little sibling he still hadn't met. He was almost expecting Room 330 to not exist as if no one had ever been assigned to live there, so he was almost a bit surprised when he saw an actual girl in there, unpacking her things.

"Katherine Bishop?" he guessed hopefully.

"I hope so," Alec said, cracking a little smile because he was a massive dork. "If I ever get portaled somewhere via locker, I'd rather my primary skill set still be of use."

Oh Alec. Your new fake sister thought you were excellent. "So you should show me where the range here is," she decided. Yes, she could find it herself. "Your bow is so gorgeous that I'm reserving the right to give you crap about using a recurve."

Yay, she approved of him! Suck it, Jace and Natalie, now Alec had a fake sibling at Fandom who shared his hobbies and kind of looked a little bit like him too.

Ahem.

"Why, what do you use?" So he could make an unimpressed face at her choice of bow too. "And I'd be happy to show you. I go every morning, so you can pretty much pick a day."

Whoa, suddenly Kate felt like she wandered into something there...

"Longbow obviously," she said with a smirk. "What else is there?" Beyond, you know, recurves & compounds & a whole bunch of other totally wussy ones. Tomorrow?"

Little siblings at Fandom were a very competitive process, okay? If you were Alec. Or Topher, actually.

Predictably, Alec made a bit of a face at the mention of longbows -- recurves were way more efficient in a battle scenario, Kate, oh em gee. "Tomorrow works," he agreed. "I'll meet you here in the morning and we'll head over? It's not far, it's actually technically a part of the dorms."

Because this school was so insane that it had a specifically-designed location just for students to shoot weapons.

Sometimes you just had to be competitive. Kate did understand that, oh yes.

"Oh come on, the extra power you get from the longbow more than makes up for any efficienc- " she stopped then grinned. "We'll see tomorrow, huh."

"Definitely," Alec agreed. Then as an idea occured to him, he added, "If you really want to get competitive, we could ask Clint to referree. Clint Barton, that is. He owns the gym in town."

Yes, Alec. Kate was familiar with him.

Kate stared at him. "H - Barton's here?"

She'd be happier if she hadn't sounded so startled right then,

And oh, look, object lesson in 'different worlds.'

Well, that was a weird look on her face. "Yes," Alec said slowly."Do you know him?"

Please, Kate had no weird looks. All her looks were exactly as she meant them. Really.

"Yeah," Kate might have wanted to deny it, but she couldn't help being a little happy that someone she knew was here too. "I know him from home. He's the best." So she stole his name.

As one did.

"...He never mentioned he was that good." Or any good at all, really. Sigh, Clint, way to have issues. "Do you think he'd be okay with judging?"

"Yeah, no," Kate rolled her eyes. "He's amazing. God, he's a legend." And not just to Kate. "Have you seen him shoot at all?"

"I don't know why not." In interests of complete honesty, she added "at home, I've worked with him a couple times, but that doesn't make a difference."

Alec hesitated before divulging this, but decided it was worth it. Sheepishly, he admitted, "Actually, he shot me once."

That just didn't sound good, Alec.

"Another thing about the island is that sometimes people have little... temporary personality shifts."

"That happens at home too sometimes," Kate said sympathetically. "Did he think he was a samurai?"

"...has that happened?" Never mind, he didn't need to know. "He was, well, mind-controlled. The island somehow became an alternate reality for a few days led by a totalitarian witch of some kind and she mind-controlled some people."

...

"That doesn't happen often."
