Of Cabbages and Kings, part 50

Welcome to Victoria, the coddling nanny state! That's what should be displayed on any signs viewed when entering this state.

It appears the Victorian Government wants to penalise tens of thousands of clubbers and punters because of a relatively smaller number of thugs, drunks and kids who can't hold their liquor. Specifically by imposing a 2am Read more... )

I KNOW. How fucked up is it?

And... great. I can't smoke after 1:59am, (because now if I want a smoko, I have to go outside). Usually that's when things start getting interesting.

It's shitting me, because the rowdy yobbos are already in full swing by the time I'm heading out, which is far earlier than 2am.

I hope the hospitality industry suffers from this. Honestly... maybe if business kicks up a stink, they'll reverse the decision or something. This is utter horseshit. :/

I hear you, loud and clear!

I've honestly lost track of how many times, for various reasons, I've called a cab to go to a club and not arrived until after 2am. The last time I went out was one such time.

Frankly it's a fucking disgrace and, since I have no qualms about voting for different parties at the State and Federal levels, am considering expressing my displeasure at the ballot box in a couple of years time.

Really, though, we shouldn't be surprised that a man called Brumby is producing this kind of horseshit!

I know, this is fucked! No smoking after 2am, no pub crawls, no going to other venues......I may as well stay at home! In fact, I think that's just what I'll do! I feel like authority is coming down on me like a ton of bricks. I'm not a bloody 12 year old! I don't need parental intervention. This is just insane - and another kick in the guts for us poor discriminated against smokers! I think I'm going to start my own pub in a basement now.........

I rarely find myself in agreement with the proprietors of the King Street strip joints, but they're fighting this tooth and nail.

This is the side of ALP governments I find most appalling; they seem to think that appealing through social policy provides carte blanche to dictating societal standards. This stunt is too obviously just brinkmanship on Brumby's part, directed at Rudd since the "Alcopops tax" was announced.
