Yes! :) I believe the positive shifts in the general population's support and building an open-minded next generation continues to bolster these types of outreach, encouraging additional influential public figures to join the fight for equality. There's still a lot to be done, but on the world's road to "preference doesn't matter/affect anything," I hope we're close to a professional athlete who finally feels they are able to be honest about who they are while playing instead of having to live a double life for the sake of their career. And aware I'm a bit biased, it would be fitting to the already heroic Sergio and Fernando to get the ball rolling close to their retirement...

This is just a morning of me running into half naked men. Now that's what I call a "good morning." XD

Fantastic post my dear! If only all sports fans would read this post, then maybe equality would get through to people. The fact that these players in America's most popular sport are taking a stand is a great step forward and I hope more come out and voice their support. I understand why LGBT players in any sport choose to stay closeted while playing and even in retirement because as you said, there is still so much homophobia in the sports world, but its not going to get any better if the rest of the sports world remains quiet. So good job Kluwe, Ayanbadejo, Marchisio, and Gronski and the rest who have come out in support for LGBT players and rights! The world (not just in sports) needs more people like you.

Thank you again for showing me the Totally Biased segment. It was great ( ... )

That is a good morning. As Captain Jack would say, "an exuberant Roman soldier would be my idea of a perfect morning."

I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed reading the post and found it informative.

The world (not just in sports) needs more people like you.Absolutely, the world needs more people who will stand up and fight for equality, and sports is definitely a battleground area at the moment. Some sports seem farther on their way than others, and unfortunately in this case, football (of both varieties) is far from an open and supportive climate ( ... )

It also seems that there are more openly gay female athletes who currently play professionally in their sportsThere are, though coming out is still very difficult and sometimes dangerous, as the death of a lesbian football player a few years ago in Africa demonstrates. There have been various discussions of why it seems (at least on a surface level) more lesbian women are able to come out in sports than men, and one of the theories is that because "masculine" is seen as being good, and therefore is acceptable even for women (e.g., girls wearing a T-shirt and baggy jeans, playing in the mud with trucks, or engaging in activities gender norms label as "male" is far more acceptable in our society than a boy trying on a dress and heels, playing with dolls/easy bake ovens, or wearing make up ( ... )
