I call dibs on the first book after you've finished it! :P Your description and experience with it thus far is compelling. Let's hope I fare better with it than other nonfictions in my past though. (I'm still only halfway through John Adams; we won't mention when I started the book.)
Random note: When you mentioned Tale of Genji, my college art history professor popped to mind. I don't know why. Maybe because he talked about it a lot. And he was just a very amusing sort of man, so your mention made me giggle. (Transitive property, and all that. ;))

I had the same reaction to Tale of Genji too except it was my Japanese Lit professor who kept referencing it. She didn't have us read it, but she kept referencing it as the first Japanese erotic novel. O.O
