Yeah, I think it's also better when the slow burn happens gradually for the audience as well, rather than the audience knowing right away but the characters not knowing for a long time. It gets annoying, especially when they throw in contrived obstacle after contrived obstacle.
I like werewolves, but prefer when they've been cursed to it being a choice, even though the latter is the traditional interpretation. My generation got so obsessed with vampires that I'm just bored of them at this point.
Hope you enjoy the Sorting Hat podcast -- I'm REALLY curious to hear the Good Place one, since I used their methodology for a meme to sort those characters myself about a year ago, and I'm really curious if their conclusions will agree with mine!

I can believe it! That's a bit of my problem with werewolves/shifters: I used to like the trope, and then I spent a year binging paranormal romance, and by the end had shifters coming out my ears, and king of lost my taste for the whole subgenre...
