Snowflake days 12-13 (indluding a fannish meme)

Day 12: In your own space, create your own challenge.

I've tried this with year-round challenges before, and, except for the Community Souced Reading Bingo, which was a lot of fun, that seems too large scale. So I think this time around Iwant to try something immediate, like a meme. Through the confluence of talking about universe fursions with

To sort any 3 Temeraire characters for your choice into Hogwarts houses.

I gave 'Starglas' as a gift to my Dad for his birthday. He liked it enough to have bought and read the sequel. I didn't realize there was a sequel.

Oh, cool, that's good to hear that he liked Starglass! And I didn't know about a sequel either, but apparently there's even a third piece, a short story ( ... )

I think dragons, in general, tend to be Slytherin primaries -- they care about their people, whether the clan, like Churki, or the captains, like the British dragons, or companions, like Lien and others. But allowing for a species-based undercurrent of that, Temeraire, I think, is a classic example of Ravenclaw primary -- a constructed worldview based on logic rather than loyalty or gut feeling. Because of the time he's spent with Laurence, he has picked up Laurence's Gryffindor primary model (but not, I think, the underlying Hufflepuff truth). As for secondary, I think he's a Gryffindor secondary -- I think that might be a general draconic tendency, too -- he does like to charge in, even when it would definitely be better for him not to. I'm thinking back to the conversation between Temeraire and General Chu in Blood of Tyrants, and I do think Temeraire, as he grows up, will pick up and strengthen a Ravenclaw secondary model which will help him make better use of his actual assets. But naturally, he's a Gryffindor ( ... )

I love Night Circus, and Jim Butcher's steampunk series isn't too bad ;)

I've heard lots of good things about The Night Circus, and it sounds like the Aeronaut's Windlass should also be pretty fun -- I just need to get around to both!

Peter & Nightingale in ASOIAF-Houses :D

And Sorcerer of the Crown is on my tbr-pile as well (as I discovered by chance when leafing through my kindle...it must have been on sale once). Ad I've also been meaning to continue The Witcher for ages (only made it through the first two books with short stories)

I ended up with two hard copies of Sorcerer to the Crown -- and I've been wanting to read it for quite a few years now -- so I better get to it, finally ( ... )

Oh yes I think Martell is a good fit for Peter. I think they also have a slightly different attitude towards family/family loyalty than the rest (not bad-different, just...idk I guess they can be very fierce but on occasions also very pragmatic and I guess that's also very Peter)

Oh, good point about family! You're right, Martells do seem to have a somewhat different take on family than the others -- important, but complicated, but without the rampant Daddy Issues that the Lannisters are subject to, and that feels right for Peter.

I've made a list of the books I want to read in the next few weeks because I keep forgetting about them.
Then I looked for books for the bingo on my Kindle and the list has grown ...
We'll see how far I get.
At least I'm all caught up on RoL, Alex Verus and Mercy Thompson. Ha!!!
(But "Spinning Silver" still is on that list, f.ex. , that will give me a bingo square as well.)

Haha, yeah -- I had to edit my "books in progress" and "books I own" list several times, because I kept finding additional ones squirreled away here and there.

Heh, at this point I would probably have a much easier time counting the series on which I am fully caught up (of the ones still publishing new books). Probably just Rivers of London, Dragaera, and The Dresden Files (and the last is at least partly because Butcher hasn't published a new Dresden book in ages).

I hope you enjoy Spinning Silver! And all your other bingo and non-bingo books.

Ooh I like the sorting meme!

Thor's and Loki's daemons?

Oh yes, MCU for sure.

Agreed on Loki. Stoat/ermine (both names for the same animal, depending on the season/coat color!) fits for that reason, too. He's a shapeshifter, and stoat/ermine is so different between seasons, it gets two different names.

Yeah, I could see a wolf for Thor, too... Strong family ties, still can play around, but more serious than a big goofy dog.

Good choices!

Ooh, hey, I hadn't thought of that aspect, but it fits and I like it! Let's pretend I did that on purpose :D

Also I have to share. I posed the Loki daemon question to friends in chat, and after dismissing chameleon and snake as too on the nose, cyanshadow mentioned sex-changing fish, which led me to a priceless mental image of Loki with his clownfish daemon he has to carry around in a little bowl. XD
