...destiny coming fast and utterly deaf to the pleas of desperate men.

I love this sentence. It's so powerful in the way that it represents how utterly helpless humans are in the face of the greater forces. That's also refreshing after all the "You are in charge of your own Destiny!" tv shows/animes I've seen lately.

It's nice :) Thank you for sharing~ We see a different side of the brothers. They are rarely running away in ff in my experience.

it represents how utterly helpless humans are in the face of the greater forces.

That to me was all of the dread and helplessness of S5, in so many ways. It seemed like whatever choice they made, it would always turn out to be the wrong one.

After growing up as Winchesters, fighting evil and saving people, to be in a situation where you're told you have no power to change anything has to be incredibly frustrating and foreign.

"One way or another, they'd arrive there together".... ahhhhh that's perfect. And actually perfectly slashy enough for me, just like the show is!

Thank you so much, it's such a huge privilege to have something written for me, I LOVE IT. And this is very beautiful and so sharply put together in such a short amount of words. You're the queen of the drabble, in my mind.

I'm so glad you liked it. The prompt took awhile to catch fire, but when it did this vivid and very different scenario took shape!

The idea of "shelter" being more about each other and the only permanent "home" they've ever had was intriguing, compared to how we usually think of it.

Thank you for participating, and giving me this wonderful idea! ♥

this kind of reminds me of the end of nightshifter, with the boys sitting in the impala in their riot gear thinking "fuck, now the fbi's after us too". i like the sense of them running from something, rather than chasing after it. plus, "they'd arrive there together" - that's the sam&dean i like.

I thought of that scene in Nightshifter, and most of S5.

It's so uncommon for them to run from their problems, but when they do it's because they're in over their heads and they've run out of options.

The prompt drove me to try to capture that, somehow, maybe just because it's such a rare state for the two of them.

I think you've described this season in a nutshell. Lovely image to hold on to, the boys wandering as fast as they can around America's highways... the only safety the two of them had ever known.

Ooh! I haven't seen S7 yet (still getting caught up on S6), but I like the idea of things being "Sam and Dean against the World" again.

I've missed that whole feeling, where no matter how bad things got for the Winchesters, at least they had each other. It's as close to justice as they can hope for.
