I hung out with a bunch of friends yesterday: some friends from my work last year, and some of my best friends that I don't get to see too often, as well as their friends.  And the whole time, I felt the need to bust out a sentence or something in Japanese.  Or even a word.  I didn't care.  It was just so natural for me to say random things in ( Read more... )

Oh my goodness!!!! I KNOW what you mean!!! I always try to turn to my friends from home... or even my parents and speak in Japanese- and then just stop and say NOTHING. Isn't it SO FRUSTRATING!?!? Ugh- I wish it were just a weekend break!
But don't worry, we will speak in random spurts of Japanese when we hang out this summer!!! I am looking forward to it!

Hahaha yeah. Whenever you do bust out with something Japanese-related, do you ever kind of feel like a jerk? I know I do sometimes, like I'm the pretentious know-it-all who studies Japanese. Maybe that's just because I have a few friends who like Japan and anime and stuff, but don't study Japanese. I don't know.

especially when there are set phrases (like "otsukaresama" or "gambatte") and when i want to make secret comments about people. it makes me think about like what if i went to japan and lived there 20 years and got fluent.. then would i come back and be frustrated at not being able to express myself in my native language? i mean if i'm having this little instances now then what will happen after living in japan and improving my jgo?

but yeah language mixes = better than everyone. it's just a problem of having people to communicate w/ :(

that's why when i hear like little kids speaking spanglish it just makes me smile

Haha I totally agree with you. All those people who think that Hispanic immigrants shouldn't teach their kids Spanish - what's up with that? Spanglish/Japaneselish/Chinglish is the best.

"Chinglish"? That's crazy!

The lack of Japanese has been driving me crazy. My friends only know French and Spanish, and I can't work with those!

"Chinglish" always kinda sounded like it should be a bad word or something

Haha, multiply that frustration for me. x_x I caught myself speaking off in Japanese these past few days and I again looked at my mom and she's like "o_O?".. whoops. SO HARD.
