To my considerable astonishment, amazement and glee, American Born Chinese, a gorgeous graphic novel, won the Printz award.

I am mildly ecstatic. I would have been rooting for The Book Thief, but it got a well-deserved honor. As did Octavian Nothing and Surrender.

Ten pages into Fargo Rock City and I'm needlessly bitter that I didn't read this when it came out, so that I could have appreciated The Klosterman for this, and not been horribly, almost fatally put off by the Lloyd Dobbler essay and assorted other things which were slavered over by reviewers and hipsters alike ( Read more... )
