What I Did Today

Someone driving along Highway 51 east of Stillwater was dragging a muffler. This created sparks which ignited several wildfires along the highway. Everything is tinder dry here since it hasn't really rained since May. Temperatures were 110+ yesterday, with moderate winds. Fire departments from all over the state came to fight the fires, but it was ( Read more... )

Thanks for sharing the pictures. So, so scarey.

Hoping that none of the wildfires gets to the dead wood in the east that was pulled down by the ice storms. I know the forest behind my mom's house is just one giant tinder box at this point. (One of those occasions where everyone agrees that we DON'T like the "natural process"-- where the prairie burns off with fast moving wildfires.)

Makes you want to spank the people who are careless with cigarettes and old cars.

I'm sure the many people who lost their homes would like to do more than spank the idiot. But, yes, I hope no one starts a fire anywhere in the state right now.

I'm surprised you didn't write some idiot. I remember one year when I was commuting between Mannford and Stillwater seeing a lot of grassfires along 51. Only one time did I have to take a detour. I don't recall if it was summer or a dry winter. Either way it wasn't that insanely hot or as potentially dangerous.

It's so difficult to fathom how anyone could be that clueless about the consequences of his/her actions. I hope the home survived.

There is a good chance the home survived, since there was quite a bit of space between it and the woods. Not so sure about the barn, although it was all metal, so it might have gotten lucky.
