I'm out in regards to my friends, but not my family.
It's so stupid, because I know they're not homophobic but biphobia is another different matter.
I know that if I come out to them, they'll invalidate it completely, "Oh, you're just confused," "Oh, you'll grow out of it."
And to be honest, it'll hurt so much more to hear that from them than any dipshit stranger on the streets.

I did see the original article(s), and disliked the former while appreciating the latter. In general I think this falls into the same sort of bullshit nonsense that any minority is seen as speaking for the entire minority.
Personally I don't use the word bisexual (nor does my slave, I can't remember what my husband, a female-bodied qenderqueer person, uses) because "Queer" just fits much, much better. We're all sitting with huge amounts of heterosexual priviledge just because out genitals all match in the ways people expect them to - but we're all pretty dan queer. But I generally happy to clarify what that means for most people.
In general, being Bi sucks unless you live in SF or some other little LGBT Mecca. It sucks even more than being Lesbian or Gay, only the Transfolk tend to have it worse. Mother help you if you're a POC as well - and it's the one place where being a guy is actually more stigmatizing than being a woman. Having to be the "public face" of any minority sucks, so unless I'm inclined to give her a break.
