Comments, please. Some evidence LJ isn't dead.
Yesterday, UPS brought the ARCs of
Two Worlds and In BetweenLast night, I was going back through the blog and came across the short "to-do" list I made for April. I don't usually make "to-do" lists, because they tend to guarantee I'll not get anything done. However, I've done well this month. The Dark

Congratulations. I know it's hackneyed, but I hope you can get a little breathing space soon.
The water was bright and clear, like a lit swimming pool. A fossil whale skull. Something about used books and Bolsheviks. The trees of a dark and threatening forest.
This month's Sirenia?

I'm thinking maybe 2012.
This month's Sirenia?
Right now, it's looking very slim.

I'm not sure taxpayers don't understand science as much as they have been led to believe that listening for signals from space is something to ridicule.
On the one hand, this is true. On the other, most Americans are scientific illiterates.

but I'm willing to look things up and learn.
Which puts you ahead of the curve.

I don't know what to say about the SETI thing, how much money could it have cost? I know we are suffering from 8 years of ridiculous mismanagement of our economy, but I'm getting pretty nervous about the 2012 election year. Did SETI have to take a dive to make a budget look better? Do we want to consider Donald Trump running for office? Augh, I don't even want to begin thinking about this.

Don't know if I said it yet, but thanks for the RP last night. It was a little odd to see someone trying to pull in some random walk-up RP - which is baffling since we're supposed to be on an RP server. I'm curious where all the RP is occuring.
I thought it was great rp, and loved the walk in. I have run into patches of rp, but, sadly, not as much as you might think. However, I begin to suspect people are getting suspicious of those people who hang about the Spire...
I don't know what to say about the SETI thing, how much money could it have cost? Actually, SETI costs US taxpayers nothing. Congress killed SETI NASA in 1993. Before that, it cost each US citizen about 3 cents a year per citizen. SETI has operated primarily on private donations since then, at about 1.5 million a year. Basically, this "hibernation" follows from budget cuts to the National Science Foundation (because in a tech society, who needs science?) and to California. And yeah, this is part of the dog and pony show. It's a token gesture to the scuttlefish ( ... )

I caught someone doing some RP in the courtyard of Meridian last night while I was running my crafting daily. Sorta wanted to jump in, but you never know how people will take that. I am wondering if players are just RPing in party channels or private ones. Whatever, we need to get it out there.
It's a token gesture to the scuttlefish.
This sums up what I was thinking about this. If only scientists had any political power, rather than being unwilling-strawmen for pundits or sockpuppets for business interests.
I'm trying to decide if The Donald scares me more than Sarah Palin.
I realized while I was at lunch that Trump/Palin is probably the slacker-conservative wet-dream. Why vote for issues when you can vote for hate and celebrities?!

Agreed on both counts.

Those damn scientists, with their ethics.

Yes!

The church still wages its war on science. Science and Art really need to stick together and band together while remaining seperate, perhaps, like the Forsaken and the Orcs.

LJ is not dead. It will not die. Doubt is the mind-killer. And in this case the LJ-killer.
Well, there can be no doubt that it's presently ailing and in decline, as people opt out for Facebook and Twitter (though they haven't much in common with LJ).

Nice analogy.

I just wanted to apologize for leaving a weird comment last week. I didn't mean for it to be weird but I know it came out that way. Also, if it freaked you out at all I'm very sorry.
I'm guessing it didn't strike me as weird or freak me out, as I can't recall it. Then again, my memories shit.
On another note I'm very excited to hear about anyone who know Aubrey Beardsley out of the water given that I'm such a fan of Beardsley.
I refuse to believe there are literate people who don't know who Beardsley (or Harry Clarke) is...

Moving from Beardsley, did you see about the uncensored edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray? I saw it in Barnes & Noble a few weeks ago; I almost bought it on sight. (It was annotated.) Evidently I'll have to go back.

I did not know! Wow!
