Yesterday's LJ entry apparently was among yesterday's 25 most popular. LJ told me so. How weird is that?

Outside, it's March. Only 71˚F and cloudy and 81% humidity. Shit weather. And how come no one told me there were new Bloom County strips? Bad humans.

Yesterday was a good writing day. I did 1,287 words and finished the second section of Agents ( Read more... )

march, reality, bloom county, money, scrooge mcduck, myths, sirenia digest, good days, popularity contests, hollywood, the rt screenplay, humidity, agents of dreamland, defiance

Hopefully, the buzz generated by the option will help my lit agent get me a better deal on Interstate Love Song, and if the movies are made, my books might sell a little better, and maybe other directors will be interested in my material.

I certainly hope it helps with Interstate Love Song. That is a book I want very much to read.

Just send me a "friend" request. And I'll accept it. And you'll be in.

Hangs head bc I did think of relaying the information. Berkeley is back! The only good thing to come out of Donald Trump throwing his bad hair into the GOP Clown Rodeo.

I hope you have more good than bad days, in writing but for life in general too.

Most folks dont understand the finances of a writer, how much goes to taxes, agent, the cat, and that you are lucky if you get paid on time twice a year. Once you get done playing catchup on the bills and health insurance, there might be enough to live on the next 6 months if you dont eat.

Here is to hoping you get the better deals, and reprints with the movie covers on the books.

Not only crass, but no one needs to know. Teaching my children about asking folks about income and how much things cost has been difficult, because it seems other parents do not do this. I'm amazed at how many people ask me how much I paid for my home, or how much I make from editing a book, blah blah blah. It's unnerving and rude. If they just looked around they would know that I'm one paycheck from ruin, but keep fighting.

Congrats on the screenplay. I always like to see the original author get the screenplay. Let's hope the buzz generated does do all those good things. Looking forward to Interstate Love Song being on the shelves.

There's two different ways to look at it.
- Don't talk about money because manners, but manners is a placeholder for a social good. It could cause embarrassment, or hurt feelings, or fuel for classism... not sure what other reasons.
- Do talk about money to keep others from taking advantage of you. If you want to know how much to pay for a Ford Prefect, or are being treated differently than your coworkers... although it should be a mutually-beneficial discussion, and there are probably ways to frame the topic to alleviate discomfort.
