Star Witness

Cold and sunny today. We had a windchill of 9˚F last night. But the house is much warmer since Spooky finally managed to close a couple of storm windows that were stuck open the past five winters.

Jesus fuck, I'm getting old.

Yesterday, I wrote a mere 798 words on the third chapter of Cherry Bomb. But I'm excused, because it was a bizarre day. ( Read more... )

dark horse, red delicious, amber benson, cold weather, dinosaurs, cherry bomb, blood oranges, 1967, pink delicious

Two bits of craziness involving that flyer. The first is that I can give one very good reason to come out this way one of these days. Namely, the Tyrannosaurus and Brontosaurus sculptures in this set are now on permanent display at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, and they were just recently re-restored to their full 1962 greatness. (A little sidenote: did you know that Charles R. Knight was behind the Sinclair dinosaur display?

The other bit: I made friends with an antique dealer a little while back who made a huge discovery when he was handling an estate sale just south of Dallas. Apparently the deceased's uncle ran a Sinclair gas station in the town of Mesquite in the early Sixties, and left a box full of Sinclair promo booklets advertising the dinosaur display at the World's Fair. If you're interested in my snagging one for you, please let me know: the artwork wasn't by Rudy Zallinger, but it was definitely painted by someone who'd studied Zallinger's style.

The Stegosaurus and Struthiomimus wound up at the Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta. In fact, my authors photo in a couple of my books is with the Stegosaurus.

Yup.

I actually got one of those off eBay several years ago. But thanks!

But first, I was there (though I don't know which day)

That is a magnificent poster.

Congratulations on Amber Benson!

It's full of dinosaurs. That's pretty cool for a newspaper.

I can now announce that Amber Benson will be narrating Blood Oranges, Pink Delicious, and Cherry Bomb for the Audible.com audiobooks

Nice. Her voice seems like it would be well suited to your prose.

I am torn with what is cooler, Amber Benson, or the life sized dinos...

Huzzah for Amber, can't wait to hear her as Quinn!
Also just wanted to mention how much I am enjoying The Ape's Wife and Black Helicopters as books, much less for their contents. An excellent job all around and one of the very presents I've ever given to myself, thank you Aunt Beast.
