Tucker, my local partner, has bought a condo in Vancouver and is moving there in spring. Both my regular-ish partners will then live 1000km away. I'll be looking around for folks closer but that'll be a bit of a reach. Longer term stuff is not decided but.

3C forecasted to get up to 6C. Rained all yesterday, gently, on the snow. Heavy winds today. Almost December. Still snow on the ground though.

At the end of last week some folks from Vancouver and the Island came up for the weekend-- it had been a couple years since I'd seen them. They had come up previously when Thea was little and before I got Avallu, so that would have been late summer 2017. I live somewhere cold and reasonably wet. Our occasional extreme low (not to long ago the regular low) in winter is sort of -40 (which is both Celsius and Ferenheit, it's where the streams cross). Mom and my brother just pulled away. It's Saturday morning and they were here just over a week. I'm actually sad to see them go, previously I would have been so relieved to have people out of my space that it would have overwhelmed everything else. I am not over-peopled these days. That's nice.

Last night I started up the woodstove; it got down to -5C last night and the mud was frozen this morning for early walking. My house is warm; the pain/slowdown of joints and muscles that my mind is so good at sidestepping is gone and with it a lot of tension and unrecognised cognitive load. More like sleet. Wet, obscuring, doesn't seem to stick. It's chilly. I want my chimney fixed. Still, it held off pretty late this year.

Date with Tucker at his place last night. I let the woodstove go out so I could clean the chimney. When I got home today I just wandered around outside in the warm sunshine on snow that was shallow enough I could walk wherever I wanted without worrying about it overtopping my boots. I've just finished scalding and gutting a suckling pig. She was born Sept 29 so that puts her at just shy of 7 weeks. She's a nice size for roasting and the scalding went pretty ok; it would have done really easily in a mechanical plucker I think. For the last couple weeks I've felt crying well up around the edges of things. It never comes when it really should: when there's time and space for me to be sad, when there's something for it to attach to. It would come with a throwaway line in a movie but not at the intense lines. It would come when I'm busy doing something else.
