I was wondering the same thing about Mary on Vampire Dairies. There is fridge logic about Esther wanting to take Alaric to get the stake, but it does seem odd that Klaus didn't blink at his sister going off with a crazed vampire hunter to get a weapon that can kill originals. Just compel Joe Average to go and get it. Or use one of his loyal hybrids. He really needs to read that do and don't list for evil overlords.

The whole road trip and hotel stuff felt like I was watching fanfic.

Back to your comment. I don't really blame Klaus. Given that they think it's the one weapon left in the world that can kill them, it would be better safe than sorry. The only thing that could be held against him is not recognizing his own sister. Yes, Esther has hundreds years of research but he's got hundreds of years of knowing how she is.

The hotel/road trip stuff felt even more like fanfic with the on the nose explanation of why Delena are great together.
