Spring!

Feb 15, 2008 18:13

The first yellow crocuses bloomed a couple of days ago. Today after work I spent half an hour clearing Winter's blanket of dead leaves off the front flower beds. I started at the end near the driveway, and I'll do a little bit until it's done. It felt good to be outside and smelling wet earth, as it always does.

If bulbs have already started to come up, is it too late to dig them up and transplant them? or to put them in pots?

Nope! The companies that sell bulbs will tell you it is, but I move them around a lot this time of year. They can be moved before they put up the flower bud, or after the leaves have died about half way down after flowering. I often accidently pull them while digging, and just re-plant them. If you want your bulbs to flower for many years, it is best to fertilize them, and when re-planting is a great time to do so because you can get the fert down to the roots.

on the off chance you have time available and I don't manage to get to this myself - If I needed help cleaning up the outside of my place friday sat or sun, how much do you charge? Ditto for the inside? (assisting)? I'm over in Bellevue so I'd provide transportation.

I'm actually working five days a week now. Sorry. Otherwise I would do it. It's good to have the regular income, but I kinda liked being able to fit in odd jobs for friends. (Well, today I am sick, so I guess I'm working four days this week. Bah!)
