Here I am, in Chile. It´s summer. We played our first show yesterday. It was outside, on a big stage, lots of lights, a decent crowd, lots of fun. We almost didn´t have instruments to play, but the locals lent us theirs at the last minute. We´re bonding nicely with the other bands and musicians. I woke up at 7am after 45 minutes of sleep and drove an intense 4 hours in a crazy blizzard. At one point I couldn't see anything for a few minutes, not even the road. Just white all around me. The van crashed into a snow bank. We pushed it back onto the road and waited until we could see well enough to drive again. Now I'm back in Toronto ( Read more... )

This time next week I'll be on plane to Chile. We have something like 10 shows to play down there. I'm pretty excited. I'm almost done with my Spanish class, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to actually practice speaking. My first ever cover band (not including ships bands I guess) is up and running. We're called the All Day Breakfast. We play in bars full of drunk people of all ages. This weekend we played two nights in a row in Barrie, at the same bar. 5 hours is a long time to spend in one bar, especially two nights in a row. We got to know the staff. We ( Read more... )

I've suddenly found myself in 5 active bands. My inbox is nothing but e-mails entitled "rehearsal". I had three rehearsals today. Only one band will be lucrative, but they are all really fun.
