The Fyreborn Islands, Kaeleer (Second Full Day of Kaeleer)

Apr 03, 2010 19:16

The Fyreborn Islands were a small archipelago in the southwest of Kaeleer. The islands themselves were covered in a thick and scrubby forest, with plenty of fruit-bearing bushes covering the forest floor. People who had taken a trip through Karla’s memories via the Cultural Fair might recognize the round, green berries that hung from the thorny ( Read more... )

The water around the islands is a bright crystal blue, much like the Bahamas. It is also deceptively deep once you get more than a few yards away from the shore. There’s a sharp drop-off that might catch the unwary.

As for how deep it is, well, the dragons have a game of leaping off the cliffs into the water. They call it ‘wave-whomping.’ They think you should try it, though from a smaller cliff.

For those uninterested in trying that, there’s still plenty of ocean to swim in and explore, complete with brightly colored aquatic life. The water is warm, even after the sun goes down.

There was no question about whether or not Lucivar was going to wave-whomp. He'd probably end up bruised again (whomping the waves hard was the only way to do it!) but he wasn't going to let something like that stop him.

Technically, one was supposed to jump from the cliff, not plummet from the air. But Lucivar wasn't one to listen to silly rules like that.

Tahiri still wasn't much for swimming, but no question any more of whether she had a love for the shoreline. She was content to wander along the edge of the water, no deeper than up to her knees, occasionally using the Force to play with the foam on the surface and twist it into shapes.

This was definitely beautiful, and both the desert-raised girl and the warrior-crecheling raised on a worldship crossing the intergalactic void could appreciate it wholeheartedly.

"Kiss kiss," Karla greeted with a grin, lazily keeping pace with Tahiri in the water. "How're you enjoying Kaeleer?"

Feel free to wander through the woods. Karla and the dragons assure you that the green berries are edible (and in fact, delicious!), though suggest that you not try anything else out there. There are brackish streams to explore and trees to climb, and various other woodsy-activities to enjoy.

Jaenelle was less inclined to play in the ocean today, and more in favor of playing hide and seek with the dragons. For such large creatures, they were adept at using Craft to sneak and blend in with their surroundings.

Oh, look! Pickleberries!

Dinah was wandering through eating little green berries too, stopping to mmm-wince at their tartness every few steps, and stopped when she saw Jaenelle picking some. "Karla introduced me to these," she said a little shyly.

Well, what did you say to one of your best friends' Very Best Friend, who was some kind of superwitch?

"Yummy."

Well, that worked actually. Jaenelle gave Dinah a soft smile. "Did she tell you what they were before she gave them to you?" she asked.

Jaenelle hadn't. It was always more funny that way.

Accompanied by either Jaenelle or Lucivar, the dragons will allow you to explore their homes. There are a clutch of eggs in most of the caves, dragon-hatching coming later in the season. Because dragons are Blood, their home are surprisingly cozy, complete with witchlights, large-scale furnitures (a modified version of a chaise longue predominates), and even a cold-storage box for meat. Many of the cave walls are covered in regular scratches, these are, the dragons will tell you, writings and stories of their race.

Jack wasn't going to pass up a chance to meet a dragon, so he was ready to tour an aerie. His dress and manner were as respectful as humanly possible.

Merlin's dress was, well, something Arthur picked after that disaster with the airport. So it was more respectful than normal at least.

Even if he looked more wary than polite.

"Hi, Jack."

"Hi, Merlin," Jack responded, with a small, wary smile. "I don't suppose you talk to dragons every day, or anything?"
