7 - Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
I don’t think that I can claim that a fic has made me do a complete 180 on a character, either from hate to love or vice versa. But I have definitely had it move me farther toward one end of the spectrum or another. Or make me see things in a character that I hadn’t before.
I think the most striking example was the relationship between Tom Paris and Harry Kim. After reading the Secret Logs of Mistress Janeway, I saw all sorts of nuances in the actual Voyager episodes that I’d never picked up on before. I also found I liked Tom more in general. Still not my favorite, but I went from a mild dislike to a mild liking of him as an individual character and at least a moderate liking of him in the context of his relationship with Harry.
And as for writing a fic? Definitely. After using Logan in several fics, I’m finding he grows on me. Not muse status, but definitely becoming a frequent flyer. He used to leave me pretty cold, especially when it came to trying to write smut. Not any more. LOL.
