I watched a separate documentary on Garfield. Sounds like he had progressive ideas. Funny how the men interested in bettering people's lives get their presidencies cut short, hmm?

All of these documentaries sound fascinating. I've watched programmes on McCarthy but I don't think I've seen the recent one you mention and I've never watched anything on Garfield. I love the PBS documentaries - some of the best programmes on TV at the moment - and for the last two weeks I've been watching the Americans in Afghanistan, the fall of the Shah in Iran and the American hostage crisis. Very interesting viewing.

Thanks for these recs!

There are so many really interesting PBS documentaries, it's been difficult catching up. American Experience, Nova, Nature, Secrets of the Dead, Frontline, it's an embarrassment of riches!

I'm sort of hesitant to watch the documentaries on more recent events. Too often they get me so angry.
