This is a wonderful chapter, especially Illyria working out that Fred was loved because she cared, and that it's in the tiny details that she (Illyria) would find what makes humans tick.

The final paragraph, where she thinks about The world broken into tiny particles is very powerful.

Thank you again for posting this story here, I'm really enjoying it (despite the lack of Spike)

One typo -

use everything she’d leant
I think you meant 'learnt' or 'learned'.

Thank you! And it's interesting to try to look at everything with utter detachment - Illyria analyses human feelings the same way she would dissect a frog.

The final paragraph, where she thinks about The world broken into tiny particles is very powerful.
It's one of the reasons I love writing her - she also has a very philosophical mind, more so than most of the other characters.

Thank *you* for reading and your lovely feedback! (And we can't have everything, sadly... Although I do have a surprise or two up my sleeve. But not what you might think! *g*)

Oooh thank you! Unbelievable how these things always slip through...

Love this chapter as Illyria keeps learning how she will live in this new life.

'...the key she had been looking for, the thing that unlocked the mystery of human interactions. Tiny, tiny details mattered to them - a rude word or glance could cause great offence, a smile could cause quite disproportionate happiness...'

Confident Illyria - 'She would not turn to dust. Not ever again.'

Forcing her to 'stand on her own legs' (as it were) is great. No one to lean on anymore.

Confident Illyria
She's the Godking of the Primordium with a plan! *g*

Thank you so much for reading and your fb!

But it would seem that the woman’s kindness - her effort to connect with people - was even more important

Yes! Wonderful realization on Illyria's part. It was so true about Fred. Fitting how Illyria uses that to her advantage around the others, turning Fred's connection with Wesley into a mask for the others. And being so uncomfortable with it.

Wasn't it just? Poor, poor Fred...

Doesn't come easy for her, oh no. Of course whether it's because of having to pretend to be less than she is, or if she's affected by the Fred-parts within her, is anyone's guess...
