I take it you've used a frying pan as a weapon before?

Oh, yeah. All the time! Really just incredible.

[ Except when it came to the giant spiders, or the soul-sucking dream demon ghost monster things. ]

[Ex-thief? That is definitely relevant to Melanie's interests, considering she happens to be one.]

Can't say we have many pirates in Gotham, but we've definitely got our fair share of thieves. [And gangs. And meta-humans. And supervillains.]

Sounds like a fun place. Were there any as dashing and helpful as me?

[ ... that lacks some bravado, though. He's really not feeling so proud of his history right now. ]

Sure. Taking no issue with leaving someone to die if it means they can get away, tricking people into believing they're in trouble just to test their loyalty, putting everyone in danger just to pursue some stupid obsession...

[Bitter? Melanie? Perish the thought!]

Yeah, they're real helpful.

[ For a moment, he doesn't say anything. This ... this is not the kind of thief he was. All he did was take things! You know ... trinkets. He was never... he never would have--

But the Stabbington brothers would have. And he knowingly worked with them. Didn't care. He rubs his face. All at once, the guilt is crushing. Quietly, lowly, rather out of character: ]

You know, these days, I'm not feeling so hot about my former profession.

You can use frying pans as weapons? But aren't they for cooking?

[There's a pause, as he contemplates Flynn's villainy questions.]

Anyway, isn't stealing stuff part of what pirates do? I guess you could be a sailor and not steal stuff, but I dunno about a pirate...

Frying pans are multipurpose tools. You just have to be creative!

[ a beat. ]

Pffft, sailors are boring. Piracy is where it's at, right? A life of excitement on the high seas! Swashbuckling! How much better does it get than swashbuckling?

Yeah? Is it the costumes, or all the "arrrrrr"-ing that goes on? [ He rolls that R convincingly. ]

Oh, yeah. Definitely. Glamor, adventure, excitement... piracy just has it all! Not that I'm considering it as a career, mind you. It's just some idle daydreaming on my part.

I'll take my pistols to a frying pan thanks. Besides, it's blunt. You can't even gut anyone with that, what good is it?

It's ... good if I don't want to kill people? [ Jeez, what's with this guy? ]

What good is a weapon that doesn't kill people? That's what it's for.

You're not the sort of person that cares, are you? Whether your enemies live or die.
