I was steered away from the horrors of loudcamp-- what I didn't know was how creepy and fucked up some of the people *in charge* were too.

The SCA is full of weirdoes and I'm scared of it. ;_;

More so than most geek social groups? :P

You guys were free to explore the loud camps all you liked, and we took you singing there...you just didn't have to JOIN one to get into the SCA....

Okay, you got me there. All geek groups tend to have a flock of wackos hovering nearby, don't they? They all, "We're birds of a feather!!!" and we're like "No, you're cuckoo". ;)

It's not just the LoudCamps. It's mostly Households In General. Most of them (not all, just most) are run by control freaks without complete information. :)

back to the post...

I think the second part of #6 and all of #10 are kind of the same thing. Not sure what to *do* about that. If you ellided #10 fully into #6, then maybe #10 could be a whole new point?

What we tell newcomers is: "Play with the people you know until you find the people you like"

Hey,

I like your list but it is a bit repeatitive. I'd combine and pair down 2 and 3, 5 and 6 and parts of 10.

Maybe start each section with a single phrase then expand on it...?

Ie;

1) The Basics:

2) Choosing a Name and Basic Persona:

3) Starting Cheap:

If you combine some numbers, you have room for other ideas. What about:

X: Addressing Peers and Royalty: We all started feeling unsure how to address different kinds of peers and royalty. Ask someone around for advise and if you find yourself needing to address someone with a crown or other indicate of status and you’re unsure you can always use ‘my lord’ or ‘my lady’ as a sign of respect. Also, always bow to people wearing crowns.

X: Your First Trip to the Fabric Store:... etc.

Just some ideas of things I wish I'd known at the start.

You know *that* is a great idea for re-organizing the bulletpoints.

I like the list a lot, and though I agree some of the items could be recombined, 10 Things We Wish We'd Known sounds better to me.
