I have eighty-two pages left in Invincible, and I could just cry at the prospect of actually reading them. I hate this book so much. And it's not all bitter LotF hatred, either; a lot of it is the ordinary hatred for any painfully boring book that I know I must finish. For me, at least, this is honestly one of the worst SW books I've ever tried to ( Read more... )

invincible, profic ranting, lotf, expanded universe, star wars

*Huggles*

I'm sorry it's so dreadful.

And there's not even the snarky to look forward to... *tear*

There'll be snark, because I'll finish it. Somehow. The pitfall there is that this book is just so bad, I'm having a hard time keeping the snark from becoming just plain complaining. There are so many contradictions, such iffy characterization, the plot hinges on such flimsy reasoning (and is an unapologetically depressing plot anyway), and the narrative somehow manages to be both rushed and boring. It's painful to read.

I seem to be in the minority here; most over in Lit at the JC are rating it at 8 or 9 out of 10. But I honestly cannot figure out where they're getting that. There are so many problems here. *pulls hair out*

Hey, let me know when you get back in Phoenix if you want to go for coffee. Is it warmer in Minneapolis-St.Paul than it is in Phoenix? :p

I'm back in town now! I got back today, but was in no shape to go anywhere - I got about 20 hours of sleep for the whole weekend. I'll be in town for the rest of the week, so any afternoon or evening is good. :)

The weather was gorgeous. It was GREEN!! I was actually in Fargo, but close enough. It rained a little, and we even had a tornado warning Saturday night. No tornado though. And thankfully it didn't rain on Sunday, when my friend had her wedding.

I'm busy almost all day Thursday, but I can be free either Wednesday or Friday. :D

Green? What's that? :p No tornadoes is always a good thing, though, as is avoiding rain at a wedding. :)

Hey, Yrie! :)

Thank you! I appreciate it. :) And I really hope I managed to make an entertaining summary and notes for the last half, because wow, was that hard to read. *facepalm*

Remember when Star Wars was FUN?

That was all I could think of while finishing up this travesty of a novel. Once upon a time, a SW book meant fun. I mourn the loss of fun. *sigh*

Yubs, how do the wedding preparations go? Isn't it next month?

It should never have tried to be serious. There are other series for that. :p

Yep, exactly a month from tomorrow. Soon I get to start chasing RSVPs, lucky me. I also really need to finish these flowers and I'm sure a million other things. :p

I even could have handled serious if they hadn't tried to go for angsty. Overreached themselves, they did. *shakes head*

Sounds like you're having loads of fun yourself. :p At least it'll involve Ewoks! :D

It only killed my spirit briefly. :p And it's done now, so I won't feel obligated to read anything more for some time, I think. I might try Coruscant Nights later this month, but at least that one sounds genuinely interesting, unlike LotF.
