After much time and effort, my gryphon fursuit partial is finally done!! This is my first suit ever but I am actually very pleased with the results. I really want to thank everyone for all your help with it, you guys made it a hundred times better with your advice. c:
Generic pose!
Back view. My original plan for the wings was much simpler, to take a pair of old costume angel wings and dye or paint them. This fell through, partially because the wings were old and in worse shape than I'd have hoped, and partially because my attempt to paint them failed two-fold (the colors weren't quite right and the feathers were matting too badly because they were too "fluffy"). I didn't want to give up on having wings though, so after some debating, I decided to make my own from scratch. I made the feathers by hand out of paper; there are 3 different styles of feather, and sixty-something in all. The process was to cut out the shape, glue the shaft on both sides (the shaft is just a strip of fun foam), paint base color, paint stripes, and then take a razor blade to add the vanes for a realistic look. It took a while but I had a process going so it wasn't too too awful. I made the base for them out of foam board and the coverts are made out of fur. They attach with buckled straps. Because I plan on using this particular hoodie specifically for fursuiting, I cut slits in it to hide the straps. The wings also connect to each other using thin, clear plastic.
The tail is layered and flops around. XD It attaches to a belt or other waist apparatus. The feet are foam built onto shoes and furred.
Side view. It's a movable jaw, and actually works really well. The eyes are follow-me.
The gloves were a unique challenge. I ended up making them out of pre-existing gloves, the cuff from upholstery vinyl, and the scales out of vinyl as well. The scales are glued on and reinforced with stitching. Of all the things I made, these were the only ones that didn't seem to have much integrity, but after some modifications they seem to be holding up very well. :)
Head! Vision through the pupils, tear ducts, and beak. Vision's not the best, but it's manageable.
Side of the head.
Back of the head.
I made optional fur sleeves for if I decide to wear a t-shirt instead of a long sleeved shirt. :P
This was just silly.
Aaaand now for a quick video. I didn't really know what to say so I sound derpy. :P It does give a better idea what it looks like in action though!
Thanks so much again everyone <3 I'll be wearing this to Furry Fiesta in Dallas for the first time this year, and hopefully to AC as well. Feel free to say hi if you see me! :P
