Fandom plagues your brain (and mine) + on comparing Bleach and One Piece

Someone at Y!Answers asked people to vote on baby names. One can play 'name the fandom' with it. I hope the poor to-be-kid don't end up with Xander Vulcano Wicaksono. Deidara actually sounds pretty good, though. And obscure enough for to keep the nonfans in the dark. Like my dear nephew, little Souji. Even the mom seems to be oblivious.I came ( Read more... )

Ohhhhhh, a friend linked me to this, and I think you're so right about the poetry-prose business. Alas, I've always been one of those peeps who had an obsession with poetry, reading Emily Dickinson instead of age-appropriate girl books. I've loved OP since before I even saw a chapter of Bleach but I've never been inspired to gab about it ( ... )

There are, once in a while, poetry that just grab my attention for its clever use of words and theme, but there's too much that just sound like
one o'clock
black cat
across the wheel of samsara she hither gaze
that I choose not to wade through the pile to get to the good ones. And the enjoyment time is so short, too; a good book can get you immersed for months or even years. I was raised on novels, the Mahabharata universe books, European comics and encyclopaedia myself and it possibly affected my entertainment preference.

As for Kubo, guess we need to wait until the end to see what's the real deal with Bleach, though it doesn't really matter in the big picture. The manga has many levels of enjoyment that one fan won't necessarily like it for the same reason as others. I don't know how Kubo's mind works, but sometimes it's disconcerting to see a chapter title like "Don't kill my volupture" and apply the whole meaning of volupture, then he left without follow-up as if it's 'just a title that sounds cool'. Like having a Kill Me and ( ... )

I'd love to read a shipping entry of yours. You're probably the most loyal (and insightful) RenRuki fan I know, and since I'm currently loving on the couple more than ever (I've always liked them but for reasons unknown I'm smitten right now), I'd be MORE than interested.

No fuel in Nodame, yes. No tension. And sorry about the word teleological. I don't get out much and my husband teaches philosophy and we talk this way--we use teleological to describe settings that can be called "coming of age" stories, I suppose. The emphasis in Nodame isn't really on romance but on how well Nodame can play in performance even if Chiaki isn't in the audience. Like sports manga, you're right. It's about self-actualization, not romance.

And are you sure the Kaien-Ichigo reincarnation theory is killed? I think it is, but sometimes my mind works around it so it can still happen. Maybe this is a bad dream.

*fans your RenRuki love* There are many RenRuki fans but I found a lot of them have either sworn off forums, or busier with RL. ^^; The essay, maybe one of these days when there's another long weekend.

As for the reincarnation theory, unless there's some roundabout explanation about souls, I believe it's dead with Aaroniero. You stay dead over there, theory, or I'll bite.
