My desktop is offline. I found it off this morning and fired it up to a very obnoxious fan noise--probably why it was turned off--and upon inspecting it, I found that fan on the video card is almost completely detached so that it hangs and spins at an angle to the heat sink on the card.

Bah.

was anything damaged or was it just disconnected?

(i used to have a short in the modem once, where it locked open the phone line. I rigged a switch with speaker wire to the outside phone box as a short term remedy , 3 months, until i cared enough to find out what was wrong.)
