Notes: Make sure you read Nina's first.
Hatake Kakashi came back from his vacation two weeks after Tsunade had -ever so gracefully- sent him away. His skin was a couple of tones darker and his shoulders were peeling off, though this wasn't all that obvious. Still, he winced when Maito Gai patted him on the back as a welcome. It was a well-meant pat, but far too willfull, just like the giver.
"Did you have fun?" Gai asked, smiling broadly.
"As a matter of fact, yes, I did have fun," Kakashi said. He was carefully placing his beloved books on the shelves where they belonged.
Gai noticed they were somewhat battered and that Kakashi had another set right above those, brand new, still in their little plastic bags. Sometimes he wondered what was in those books that kept the other jounin so fascinated -besides the obvious, of course. Kakashi's obsession with those things was beginning to strike him as unhealthy.
"Oh, and I made a friend," Kakashi said, suddenly.
"I'm sorry, what?" Gai asked; he was so lost on his train of thought he lost the train of the conversation.
"I made a friend on the beach," Kakashi said. He had taken a bottle half full out of his bag.
"What was he like?"
"An odd fellow. Even for our standards. He arrived to Fiji riding two sea turtles."
"He was a ninja too, then?"
"No. A pirate."
"A pirate?"
"A captain. Captain Jack Sparrow." Kakashi drank from the bottle, as in his new friend's memory.
Gai felt a sting of... something. "What is that?" he asked.
"This? Rum."
"Rum? As in the liquor?" Gai exclaimed, arms open wide. "That thing's gonna ruin your flame of youth!" he yelled.
"Actually, liquor makes flames grow," Kakashi answered without missing a beat.
Gai was appalled. "You- What did you just-?"
"You are so awfully predictable," Kakashi said, grinning behind his mask. He pressed the bottle against Gai's chest. "Here, have a drink. One won't kill you."
Gai took the damn bottle and sniffed it. "Your friend gave you this, I gather."
"Well..." Kakashi scratched his head.
In that precise moment, a scream of despair raised from Konoha's main gate: "Where's the rum thief gone?!"
