I know I promised not to go on and on about the weather, but good grief it has been diabolical lately.  I'm sitting up late, unable to sleep due to a horrible cold that made me sleep on and off for most of the day, and I've just listened to the single worst Shipping Forecast I have ever heard,.  Thank heavens I'm not actually at sea - I usually ( Read more... )

This bad weather seems endless and I can hardly believe the amount of rain we've had. In between times here we have had a lot of sun which tends to give a feeling of well being and hopes of an early spring and then the following day it's back to rain and gales. I feel for all those who are affected, especially Somerset who must be sick to death of it after two months.

Hope your cold gets better soon. x

Horrible, isn't it? It must be hellish in the Somerset Levels - it gets pretty soggy there every winter, but this is horrible. I have a mental image of Ely as a little sticky-up bit surrounded by marshlands, so I hope you are keeping dry yourself. It's a very good excuse to stay in and watch movies!

We are a sticky-up bit that used to be surrounded by marshland but thankfully, with the help of the Dutch, the land was drained and ditches, rivers, banks, drainage, wind pumps, pumping stations and dykes were built which keep us safe to this day. Without them we would be under water again, apart from the sticky-up bit of the cathedral aka the ship of the fens :)

I am so very glad we didn't choose this time to visit.
The people most affected are in such dire straights and it is just anguishing to see photos of what's happening.
Feel better!

There are some very pleasant intervals between the rain and wind, but they don't last very long, so you were lucky to not be coming.

I can't think of anything worse in the household disaster line than a flood - much worse even than fire, because it goes on so long, and takes such a long time to clear up after. It must be horrible.

Yikes. I wish we could take some of Britain's rain or the central US's snow--California is parched, and though we had our first rain last weekend since November, we're far below anything like normal levels: driest winter on record. Bit worrying for farmers especially.

There does seem to be some sort of global imbalance, and I suspect that global weather patterns are in the process of changing radically. I suppose years ago the flooded farmers in Somerset wouldn't have known about the drought-stricken ones in California, but knowing seems to make it all slightly worse.
