So I finished The Thin Executioner (and started on The Bartimaeus Trilogy jesus balls that's a lot of vowels). In the end, it was a decent read, though I won't go back through it again. It suffered from a little thing I call "roaming descriptors".

It is ESPECIALLY prevalent in fanfic. Ugh. I still see it in original fic and published works too, and every time it bugs me.

If your character's diction overflows into the narration, or if it's clearly Person A's point of view as the narrative shows, then referring to characters as Person A would remember them is alright. Doubly so if it's in first person!

So there are exceptions for for it, but in general, I totally agree with you. Disclaimer: I wrote this comment out of order so it might be all wonky. HELLO BLENDER SQUIRREL, HOW ARE YOU TODAY?
