Oh gosh. I'm only halfway through the chapter (had wanted to leave a comment before reading but it is not really in my habit to do so), but I couldn't help it anymore. Charles and Sebastian! Who is Charles and who is Sebastian? I bet his mother assumes Marco to be Sebastian...

Alright, done! The story itself reminds me vaguely (very vaguely) of Giovanni's Room. It's also a tiny bit like Maurice but very much not at the same time. Aaand... I must say I much prefer this story over either book. (Mostly because it's a bit of a crossover between Literature and fan fiction; there are more of such stories but.. yeah).

ALSO THE UST IS KILLING ME.

Heee ^^ Charles and Sebastian are the two main characters from Brideshead Revisited; they're the very very close ones that some critics say were just friends and some say were together. At the time Alex's mum wouldn't have thought about them as being together, though ^^

I know! I just watched the film and I've ordered the film. And you're right, I never considered that not everybody might see the slash as clearly as I do.

Giovanni's Room (by James Baldwin) is an American gay novel. It's surprisingly compact, actually,and here is the synopsis that I took from the back of the book:
"When David meets the sensual Giovanni in a bohemian bar, he is swept into a passionate love affair. But his girlfriend's return to Paris destroys everything. Unable to admit to the truth, David pretends the liaison never happened - while Giovanni's life descends into tragedy.It basically sums up the entire thing. David lives in Paris, encounters Giovanni, they fall in love and do illicit stuff, and in the end they part because of the return of the girlfriend. It's -well, it's good. But since it is American literature, the language is American too which means that I discovered I do definitely prefer British literature. The ending is even worse than the ending in Maurice, actually (which I quite enjoyed, I mean, he wasn't

Oh, lovely, lovely story. I'm really enjoying this. Alex is wonderful - incredibly sweet and unable to help himself, but oh, the hurt. Marco seems rather more sure, but afraid to be hurt, I think. Beautifully done, and you've captured the era well! ;-)
