Because... if humans knew about the overarching system, the Twilight, the... mechanisations Others go through... they'd realise how powerless they were. Are.

And would either resent us, or try to control us, and it would... actively undermine the very role we were made for - to protect them.

Because not a single human knows what I do. I may have to tell some in the future here, and I... wish to prepare for that eventuality.

I am only guessing, but I think the court physican knew what I was capable of but hid it from me in an attempt to keep me safe. He used to practice magic, but I do not know any more than that. Otherwise only three others knew, and they all posessed magic in someway, although I did not know one did at the time. Does that help?
