I agree with you. I think one of the major causes of road rage is a lack of feedback mechanisms needed to communicate gratitude or anger in cars. Cars have all kinds of methods for signaling intention, but none for communicating emotional messages.
It's so easy for people to become complete jerks behind the wheel, or for you to make the assumption that someone is being a selfish jerk when really what they're worried about is getting to a bathroom in the next 5 minutes.

¡yes! the horn is universally recognized as "BAD" so i can't tap twice to thank a person, and ¿who knows if they see me waving madly in front of my rear-view? (and opening the window to wave out the side is a dangerous distraction in the middle of City traffic). i was thinking some kind of small marquee could be mounted below the upper, rear, break-light which flashed a smiley or frowny face: an animated bumper-sticker.
