I think Alfred is left with four little spinach pastries carefully arranged on a plate in the center of a silver tray, balanced on one gloved hand in the center of the ballroom... as he watches Bruce and Buffy slip into the back hall, the pastries forgotten. Alfred's seen it before a hundred times, of course. A thousand. Still, he can't help but wonder if Master Bruce will ever choose one woman and settle down, the way his father did.

The in-joke that the reader knows their secret identities makes it giggle-worthy. (In my head, I like to believe that ol' Brucie knows about Buffy's nocturnal activities already.)
