[Fanfic] Dog Days

Jul 24, 2010 13:42

Because we were hit by one nasty heat wave the other day, and I wanted to torture poke fun at Axel (so to speak :P). So, for the first time, I managed to write something that's comics!canon (set, I guess, a bit before the Blackest Night thing). Yay! :o)

Title: Dog Days
Characters: Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Mirror Master II, Weather Wizard, Trickster ( Read more... )

captain cold, evan mcculloch, weather wizard, fanfic, heat wave, axel

Ah...this was excellent! Captured very well the listlessness of a hot day without air conditioning, and I really liked the bit about Len's reaction to the ice truck, nice canon use there.

Thank you :o) I think the snippet was brought around by the idle thought of robbing an ice cream van (we don't even have ice cream vans here, at least I haven't seen one around for years!) - the heat really got that bad - but I figured that was a more suited heist for our Tiny Rogues :D So I made it an ice truck. Because what I really wanted was for Axel to not understand why some things are simply NOT DONE. And to look at a cold gun while its owner doesn't even bother turning around. 'Cause we all like to poke fun at the kid, won't we? ;o)

hazing axel just doesn't get old XD he makes a good gopher, i approve. i love the lingering hope that mark can fix the weather (and the disappearance of that hope) and compliments on writing evan in dialect (something i epic fail at). overall nicely done :)

It doesn't, though, does it? ;o) I love to read/write it!

And Evan in dialect mainly comes from (greatly toned down) the Nac Mac Feegles from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series (especially The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky and Wintersmith). They're a bunch of tattooed, blue-skinned red-haired six-inch-tall men, who spend their time drinking (anything, if the bottle looks interesting), fighting (they can headbutt a horse!) and stealing anything that's not nailed down (if it is, they also steal the nails). I bloody love 'em :o) I just stopped short of having Evan say things like "Crivens, but I'll give ya sich a kickin', ye wee scunner!" :D

Thanks a lot!

Very cute -- poor Axel, I think having a slave around is the primary reason to accept noobs into their ranks :>

Well, the way I see it, the noobs should be able to pull their own weight, but yeah, Axel would have his uses as a gopher slave :D Thanks!

Very funny. At least Axel came in handy. I love how they were all hopeful when it looked like Mark's wand was working again although couldn't Cold have just cooled the air with his gun? The image of Axel hovering by the window was great but if he stormed out in costume, he's probably going to get caught by the Flash.

Mark's wand looking just like it was going to function... and then not reminds me of all these "Aaaahh!" when light/electricity is put back on in a previously dark room and then the "Awww..." when it goes out again :D As for Len's gun, my take is that, if they wanted absolute zero then yeah, it would work a treat - but they just wanted something cool... that didn't leave water all over the place when it melted and sent the TV to TV hell :o) Then again, that's just for the need of the story ;o)

Yup, Axel is gonna have to be extra careful. Or maybe the Flash is gaping at home, too, struck down by the heat :D

Thank you!
