Yeah, I probably should take it to a shop (and don't worry about being patronising!). I'm just a bit too busy to take it on Saturdays most of the time. And I need to get the pedal straightened out cos it's bent and keeps catching on the frame. Anyway, hopefully the washers I bought earlier will help the nuts stay put.

When I was a kid, I barely ever had any chips, burgers, snacks, takeaways, or similar fatty-yet-yummy things at home, as my dad is into healthy living and nutrition and all of that. I think we went to Burger King once, when it was somebody's birthday. So guess what I got hooked on as soon as I was able to buy my own food?

So yeah, I totally blame my dad for making me sick of healthy eating. I only started eating vaguely sensible stuff again about two years ago.

Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I mean, obv people shouldn't just feed their kids crap all the time, but feeding uber-healthy stuff just feeds a sense of deprivation.

Cool! I was wondering if it was maybe a bit clichéd as two people in the community I asked about this in said they had/knew someone who had those tats. But eh, it's not a heart with 'mother' written across it, so maybe not THAT overused....

Ooh, yeah, please do! And no, nothing's original anymore. Life being a "stale and lifeless promontory" springs to mind when I think of that though, so I need reminding occasionally.

hmmm, not entirely convinced the food has to work that way! i was brought up the same as you. healthy food, fruit for snacks, and wasn't allowed crisps, pop or biscuits. had school dinners at school, which were always healthy. and i still generally prefer proper cooked meals or fruit for snacks. and i can't stand pop except in booze, and rarely eat chocolate.

it wasn't until my younger siblings started going to parties that we started having crisps and fizzy pop in the house.

i love that tattoo, always thought it looks gorgeous. there are a few of them around though, it wouldn't be an original thing.

I don't know, it's just because it was SO verboten that it was kind of a rebellion to eat crap? Ah, who knows?

Indeed. I was worrying just how clichéd it would be to get it done. But as I was saying to abskii in a previous post, nothing's original anymore, innit?

See I resent my mother for letting me pick what I wanted for dinner every day. I choose donner kebab and chips. On rare occasions my mum cooked it would be curry, I didn't eat vegetables till I was 19.
I don't think thats a healthy way to bring up children, although saying that I have no problem with food and love fruit and vegetables now.

Get your bike to the shop! the problem you have sounds persistent!

I think there's got to be SOME discipline, obviously, but I think my mum's approach was just way too strict. I mean, she must have had some inkling that I'm her mother's daughter and therefore proud and stubborn and so if I was told that YOU WILL EAT YOUR VEG, I would do everything in my power not to. And telling me that something's naughty has always been an instant way of making me want it. See also: smoking. I'm now trying to get around this approach in my head by thinking of ill health as being a pretty crap approach to rebellion, since it's what all the cool kids are doing.

And yeah, I'll take my bike to the shop on Saturday.
