It was 8 years ago today American Idol premiered and Ryan and Simon -- love 'em or hate 'em -- took their first step in becoming the pop cultural icons they are now.

Simon expected the show to get pulled off the air within 3 or 4 weeks. He was very, very wrong.

It's possible that revealing this to you will ruin my chance but nonetheless: I pretty much am permanently convinced that all it will take is just one more pic, just one more photoshop, just one more something to throw your way and then you will suddenly understand.

Oh, wow. Have seen every season of both AI and CI then? That's pretty impressive. I think that makes you my idol. :-) I'm slowly making my way through the backlog of AI seasons. I watched the first season of CI when it aired, but I really couldn't deal with Ben Mulroney. I think I see him the way I think many people see Ryan.

Dunkleman kinda went on to bitch about Idol taking advantage of the singers it signed to its label, then once the show really made it big he decided he was ok with it after all and saying that he should have stayed with the show, and then doing stand up comedy that included jokes about wishing that Ryan got AIDS.
