Sometimes reality bites even though it is something that will be beneficial. After having gone through various dr. appts., cardiologist, pulmonary, psychologist, sleep apnea study, starting the use of a cpap machine for the sleep apnea & finally getting 5 yrs. worth of medical records (proving I am morbidly obese)and have tried various dieting ( Read more... )

I'm in reasonably good health *knock on wood* for being a 44 year old woman. My only recent problem was a bad vitamin D deficiency that left me in a lot of pain and made me feel very run down and lethargic. But I fixed that with massive doses of vitamin D and calcium and I recently lost 20 pounds which has made me feel even better (although I have much more to lose). A calorie-free brownie with strawberries and whipped cream would be very very nice, please!

Wow I never heard of a vit.D def. causing pain, & where was the pain? did your dr. find it or did you? I'm glad you got it handled. Maybe I never new about this due to the amt. of milk I use to drink. I have osteoporosis so Mega-Calcium is what I take. I switched to 1% milk when I started my diabetic diet. It is an acquired taste :( But sugar-free cool whip is better than reg.

There's a little story behind the vitamin D. I was born in southern California and lived there for 40 years. My husband needed to transfer and we picked Seattle so we moved to Southwest Washington state three years ago. I don't know how familiar you are with the Pacific Northwest but the area we live in, which is the rainforest part (coastal/inland) is pretty much rain 9 months out of the year and when it isn't raining it's usually overcast. My "condition" started with a weird depression which I thought was just homesickness but eventually I became severely lethargic, my joints aches and my knees were stiff and achey and I used to get horrendous headaches where all I wanted to do was doze off and take naps all the time. I was at the point where I felt I needed to go to the doctor but was told that I should try vitamin D and calcium first. I thought it was a crazy thing but did research and started on 1,000 IUs of vitamin D and calcium (calcium helps the body absorb and utilize the vitamind D). I noticed a difference after 3 weeks so I ( ... )

I've never had a torn rotator cuff but my aunt has and it does seem like a pain-in-the-ass. My war story involves a herniated bellybutton that I had to have removed as a result. It became herniated during my pregnancy 21 years ago. I had it repaired and almost immediately got another hernia because of my weight. So I had it repaired again and this time it lasted about 6 months before I had it fixed a third time.

Now it's 7 years later and my hernia has been back for about 5 of those 7 years. However, my surgeon won't fix it until I lose weight and stop smoking. I did lose 40 pounds this year but have been gaining it back so I'm trying to get back on track with my eating habits and exercise. As for the smoking, my plan is to quit once I hit my target weight.

So there's my war story. Not nearly as bad as yours but a war story nonetheless. =)

I didn't know having an "outtie" would be such a problem! I can really relate to your smoking plight. I finally quit after 35 years! I used those prescription cigarettes when I wanted a drag but I must tell you that I credit God with a miracle that I had never been able to do. So here come the, "I can't believe she said that comments." It's ok.

Thanks, but believe me me I tried you name it over the years. I think the last one was a $100.00 trip to a hypnotist. The cigs are by Nicatrol or Nicorette and are actuallly little cartridges with a small amt. of nicotine & the caretridge fits into a cigarette type thing that allows you to inhale & even looks like a cig but more like a "roll-your-own" !

Well I tripped over my dog and fell off my porch. I broke my right arm, smaller bone in 3 places and dislocated the other bone on both ends. I needed surgery to repair the break and reattach the wrist joint

It was the second time I had broken the connection between my arm and hand. It's not really a bone, but a group of muscles and cartilage.

I'm left handed. But I keep breaking my right side.

owwweee! Do you suppose it's your right side of your brain having a disagreement with the left side? Now my wrist hurts. Who said I don't feel your pain?

War stories of medical stuff...
Wow I could write a novel..
My biggest thing would be when I was a teenager and I had a malformation of my blood vessels in my leg. My dad took me to several different doctors and finally found one who would help us figure out what was wrong. I went into have the procedure done and ended up in the hospital for 3 months.

The procedure involved injecting chemical into my leg to *shut off* the malformed area but my artery it was injected into spasmed.

16 years later I still have issues with my leg and blood circulation along with some not so pretty scares.

that's the worst war story I have.
