Isadora carried the bowl of salad to the table with meager trepidation, watching rather detachedly as Nyxie hustled about the dining room, setting things in order. The elf had gone to the extent of lighting candles and setting up silverware in a ridiculously elaborate fashion, and she wondered now if that was taking things a bit too far ( ... )

"Most definitely," she agreed. It was very true. People had to be wary of whom they associated themselves with these days, with the Registry in effect. The Prophet had truly become a vicious sewing circle.

"Oh," she said slightly abashedly, eyes darting briefly in search of Nyxie. Was it wrong of her to send off the house-elf? No, she decided, in retrospect. "I can take it, if you like," she added, delicately taking his cloak and placing it rather ceremoniously upon one of the many hooks in the parlour.

At his next observation, she inwardly flinched.

"Really?" she replied, very timidly, turning to face him. "I didn't, well, you see, it wasn't my intention to seem too forward."

I just wanted to see you again. See anyone.

Her cheeks flared scarlet.

He handed her his cloak calmly. He was used to those who had house-elves actually having the creature do such duties. He had seen one, hadn't he? Yes, he decided. Which meant, by all rights, the creature should be doing something more important.

As she stumbled over her words, he realized she'd taken his meaning all wrong. Had she really thought--? Yes, apparently she had.

"No, you misunderstand. It is simply that given your own stand during the wars, inviting me into your home is more than slightly odd. Would you not agree? Or have you come to embrace your family's views more than you have led on since being victim to the Ministry's justiceA very pointed question, but rather that than her believing he'd thought her forward.
