A casual dinner with an old friend

After the stress of the last week, Remus was looking forward to a nice casual dinner with an old friend.
Only, this was an old friend he'd let believe might have a future together with him for three years, when he knew in his heart of hearts it wasn't ever going to happen -- something he still felt some guilt over. Nor did this old friend have any knowledge of the feelings he had developed for someone else, and he was still undecided if he should tell her because he owed her that much or if he ought to keep his own council to spare her feelings. After all, though he didn't want to hide his relationship with Severus, he also knew that it would have to hurt at least a little for her to hear of it.
But, in the midst of all the hoopla over the anniversary of the end of the war and the reemergence of his place as 'Witch Weekly's Seventh Most Eligible Bachelor', a little thing like dinner with his "ex" wasn't much of a stressful thing...especially since he'd like to fancy they were still friends.
Packing up the last of his marking for the night, Remus waited only long enough for Severus to bring him that night's does of potion before heading out to meet 'Dora at the pub.
The Leaky was a bit a the crowded side for a Tuesday evening at the end of winter. But, he supposed that was due to the lingering festive aire from the anniversary celebrations. Navigating the room with agile efficiency, he located a table near the bar and claimed it at once before it could be lost to another patron. Settling in to wait for 'Dora's arrival, Remus focused on narrowing his auditory input so that the multiple conversations about them would not be too much of a distraction with his heightened hearing so close to the moon.
