So I know Wikipedia can be edited by anyone and therefore stupid shit makes it through sometimes.

However, I'm at a loss as to how to even deal with this, here. I'd edit it myself but my mind is just... no longer working, I'm so angry.

Individuals with spastic diplegia are very tight and stiff and must work very hard to successfully resist and "push ( Read more... )

Yeah, no shit.

Even worse is that looking at the History page, some jokers keep putting a link to Monty Python's "Ministry of Silly Walks" on that page. Jesus.

No love,

I’m confused. Is this written through the colored glasses of someone who is trying to use generalities, since IIRC, WP says CP is an “umbrella term” and by saying “only walking” and “setback in life” is just poorly chosen wordage to focus on one area of the spectrum and not the far extreme worst possible scenario? Or is it some lulzy thing by some Onion staffer wannabe?

::bangs head against hard surface:: So my weird eyesight problems, my shit hand-eye coordindination, bad balance, and involuntary muscle spasms are all just in my imagination then? I have to go and call most of the other spastic-diplegia CPers I know in RL to tell them they don't need their wheelchairs or high levels of personal care. S will be thrilled to hear that she no longer has to have those pesky epiletic seisures or round the clock care.

Fuckwits.

And I'm pretty fucking sure I had none of that fancy gait analysis early in life - otherwise it wouldn't have taken 20-30 years to get the assistive devices I REALLY FUCKING NEED!!!

And one of the VERY BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE was the day I started using my scooter. I walk as well, in the flat and in certain other situations, but I do NOT miss walking all the time everywhere one little bit. I can actually concentrate on things now, and I'm not exhausted all the time and I don't fall over as much and I feel SAFER. I LOVE WHEELS!!!!

Yeah that's the thing. A lot of people do love wheels, and... people who have never used wheels just have no idea about that at all. Which is just dumb. Argh. :(

I walk everywhere but jeez, what is so horrid about wheels?!

In addition to all the many huge problems with this entry's tone and emphasis. . . by definition "diplegia" includes some impairment in upper extremity function. Otherwise it would be called "paraplegia."
