Title: Casterly Rock Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire Summary: Oberyn and Elia and the Martells visit the Lannisters. Oberyn is snarky. Elia is polite. Notes: I should write more Martells. They're really fun.
Oberyn being obnoxious and smartass + Elia being long-suffering and resorting to underhanded tactics = best thing ever. I remember Oberyn describing this scene to Tyrion in whichever book that was, and it's interesting to see it play out. Love the parallels between Oberyn/Elia and Cersei/Jaime, and Oberyn is so close to the truth! Ah, irony. And how Cersei and Jaime have such different reactions to Tyrion - Cersei is already distancing herself from him, because she still believes at that stage that ugly people are evil? Or she understands that their mother died giving birth to him and now their father is always unhappy and as she sees it Tyrion has broken up their perfect family? And Jaime might not quite get that connection yet and is focusing on the fact that they have a little brother now and someone needs to look out for him.
“But you won’t inherit,” Oberyn cut in, “Because nowhere but Dorne treats their women like real people.” Now I am imagining Cersei going to Dorne to marry Doran or Oberyn for politics, possibly this is why
