“How are you doing, Casey?” Jason asked his partner, sitting across from her at his desk.
She glanced at him and narrowed her eyes. “I’m fine.”
“You don’t need a day off or anything?”
She rolled her eyes. “I knew it. What do you want, Walsh?”
“Who said anything about wanting something?” he asked innocently.
She looked at him. “How much?”
He sighed. “Ten thousand.”
“Ten thousand dollars?” she repeated.
“Minimum.”
“Do you need to pay off your pimp or something?”
“Hey, you’re the one who used to be a hooker.”
She glared at him. “At least tell me what it’s for. Unless the price of a Happy Meal juristically rose since I’ve last been there, there’s no way you need that much cash.”
“My tab at Apollo’s kind of… ran up over the years.”
“Why didn’t I see that coming? Ever think of not drinking so much?”
He shook his head and shrugged, looking at her like she was speaking a foreign language.
She rolled her eyes. “Fine. I’ll bring the check over to your place tonight.”
“Thanks. Anything you want?”
She shook her head. “Not right now. I’m just gonna hold this over your head for a while.”
