“Hey,” Casey said, gently kneeing Jason’s leg. “What’s wrong?”
He turned his head to look at her then looked back up at the ceiling. “What makes you think something’s wrong?”
“You’re brooding. Brooding after sex is never a good sign.”
He looked at her again and pushed a strand of hair out of her eyes. “Did you ever think being with me might be dangerous?”
She laughed. “You’re worried that sleeping with you is the most dangerous part of my day? How narcissistic of you.”
He sat up slightly. “Think about it, Case. Every time I… get close to someone, they get hurt. I mean, Emma was… you know and then Allison…” he trailed off, shaking his head. “If something happened to you…”
“It’s part of my job. I risk my life every day and that has nothing to do with you. Well, it does but… you know what I mean. If something happens to me, it’ll be because of the job. Not because of you.”
“I’m not taking that chance. You mean too much to me.”
“Was that… are you breaking up with me?”
He looked down and didn’t reply
“I have to admit, this is the first time I’ve ever gotten dumped for my own good. It's interesting.”
