“You gonna be ok?” Jason asked as he flipped the open sign on the door of the diner over. Casey was sitting at the counter, almost looking like she was in a trance.
“I’m fine,” she told him.
He sighed and sat on the stool next to her. “You shot a guy.”
“He was robbing a bank. I’ve shot robbers before.”
“Not in the head.”
She let out a shaky breath. “I did not expect that big of a mess.”
“Yeah, funny thing about brains, they tend to splatter.”
She closed her eyes and said nothing.
“Sorry.” He put a hand on her back and rubbed it softly. “You need a hug?”
She looked at him and rolled her eyes.
“What? You don’t think I can hug? I can hug.” He opened his arms.
She sighed and moved into his arms, putting one of hers around his waist.
His arms awkwardly came around her back. “Ok, maybe I can’t hug.”
She wrapped her arm tighter around him. “Few more minutes,” she mumbled into his shirt.
“You got it,” he told her, resting his chin against the top of her head.
